Luke Thompson, 83, was born in Trent Texas
April 4, 1935 and died at his home, in Roswell New Mexico, on June 9, 2018.
He was raised in Big Springs, Texas where he graduated high school and
attended Big Springs Community College. He also attended Waco University before
being drafted in the United States Army in 1956.
Luke is survived by his
ex-wife Pat Thompson of Roswell NM, son Robert Thompson and daughter-in-law
Dayle of Roswell NM. He has two Grandchildren, Amber Thompson of Manhattan KS
and Justin Thompson of Avondale AZ. Also brother-in-law Ireland McCormick and
sister-in-law Gearline Thompson, along with nieces and nephews.
Luke is
preceded in death by his parents, Beulah Henson Thompson and Julian Murdock
Thompson and his siblings JW Thompson and Jueldeen McCormick.
During his
adult life, Luke was fortunate to enjoy his passion every day as a Golf
Professional, running various Country Clubs around the Southwest, including his
final location at Roswell Country Club. He taught many people, including
children how to play golf and was a very talented instructor. When not at work,
Luke enjoyed raising and riding quarter horses with his wife and son.
Per
his request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations are
encouraged for "The First Tee" a youth sports organization whose mission is to
grow the game of golf by transforming the experience that kids (and families)
have with the sport.
