Stewart "Stew" Edward Putnam
 December 25, 1917 - July 2, 2012

 

PUTNAM, STEWART EDWARD--
Stewart passed away at home with his family by his side on July 2, 2012 in Roswell, New Mexico. He was 94 years young and enjoyed a wonderful life. Stew was born December 25, 1917 in Hesperus, Colorado to Robert A. Putnam and Irene E. Vergon who preceded him in death. Stew was also preceded in death by his older sister Dorothy McClure and younger brother Lee Putnam who was killed in the Berlin Airlift. He married Evelyn Anna Padgett May 17, 1944 in Santa Fe, New Mexico who passed away September 1988. He was also preceded in death by his long time companion Estie Stamper of Roswell.

 

Stew was a B-17 bombardier and pilot at the rank of Lieutenant, during WWII stationed in England and was in Paris, France to celebrate the end of the war. He continued a 25 year career in the Air Force retiring at Glasgow Air Force Base in Montana as a Senior Master Sergeant. He had a second career in the Civil Service as a computer programmer for 20 years retiring a second time in Port Hueneme, California. Stew was an avid hunter and was a lifetime member of the NRA and was an NRA instructor for many years. Stew retired in Roswell in 1994 and enjoyed traveling in his motor home, bowling, and playing golf.

 

Stew is survived by his daughter and son in law Cheryl and Bill Corder of Roswell, son and daughter in law Terry and Mary Putnam of Young Arizona, grand children Heather Hellmers and husband Kendall of Roswell, Stewart Todd Corder of Lompoc, California, Kathy Bemiller of Chandler, Arizona, Danny Putnam of Glendale, California. And eight loving great grand children, Brittany, Tristen, Cheyenne, Wyatt, Trinity, Cameron, Alyssa, and Hannah

Stew was a loving father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather who will be greatly missed.
