Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Collett will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February
6, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church. Graveside services with Military Honors
will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2015 at Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad,
NM. Doyle Howerton will be officiating.
Bob was born on December 26, 1923 in Big Spring, TX.
Bob was truly a Godly man with unconditional love for his family, a leader and teacher
of high integrity who demonstrated his love for the Lord through his daily walk.
His wit and great sense of humor will be missed.
Bob was a Senior Olympian in bowling earning Gold Medals in several states, he won
many awards and had numerous 300 perfect games. Bob earned state and national
Olympian titles. He was chosen in November of 1999 as New Mexico Senior Athlete
of the year and carried the Senior Olympian Torch. He was a Dallas Cowboy
fan who also enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Bob was in the Army and served in WWII from 1943 to 1946 in Germany and France.
He is survived by his wife Patricia of the home; daughters, Judy Jones of Roswell,
NM; Cheryl Vickers (Tommy) of Carlsbad, NM,; Cathy Gossett of Midland, TX; grandchildren,
Brant Jones (Mindi) of Roswell, NM, Tammy Collins (Travis) of Albuquerque, NM, Callie
Mayrhofen (Kyle) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Britni Vickers of Albuquerque, NM, Lane Gossett
of Midland, TX, sister, Nita Lynch (Larry) of Artesia, NM; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Bob is also survived by 6 step-children, Pat Beason (Roger) of Carlsbad, NM, James
Ray (Janell) of St. Martinville, LA, Becky Slate (Gary) of Shawnee, OK, Bill Maddox
(Vicki) of Oklahoma City, OK, Rick Maddux of Carlsbad, NM, Meredith Maddux and Debbie
Morgan of Broomfield, CO, 8 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Bernice Collett, Sister Margaret
Chapman, and brother Eldon Sanders.
He was ordained as a deacon at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Carlsbad, NM. In
1991, he and Pat became members of the First Baptist Church and the Sweet Ole Saints
Bible study class.
Pallbearers will be B.J. Jones, Lane Gossett, Larry Lynch, Tommy Vickers, Tommy
Sanders, Gary Slate and Gary Auld.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Sweet Ole Saints Bible study class at First Baptist
Church and his longtime bowling friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wenner & Staff, Dr. Braik & Staff and
a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice and Dr. Stavash Karimian for their wonderful
care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to Gentiva Hospice and the
Gideon Bible Ministry.
