Mary Ellen Helton 1936-2016lMary Ellen Helton -- January 23, 1936 - September 18, 2016

Mary Helton, age 80, passed away on September 18, 2016.  Her memorial service will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 11:00 am.  Senior Pastor Jerry W. Beaver will conduct the service.

Mary was born to Oma Mae Farrar Bullard and Byrd Bullard on January 23, 1936.  Mary was the third child of six children.  She married Allan Helton on April 20, 1957.  She worked in the Social Security Office for several years.  After her husband retired from the Air Force, they returned to Roswell.  Mary then worked as an IRS Agent until she retired.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three of her sisters, Joy Lee Roberts, Joyce Park, Clara Hinkle, and her only brother, Earnest Bullard.  She is survived by her son, Tracy Helton, her daughter, Connie Sue Helton, her ex-husband, Allan Helton, her granddaughter, Jamie Stuart, and two great-grandchildren; Ashton Marquez and Emma Stuart.  She is also survived by her sister, Onie May Hicks, brother-in-law, Bill Hicks, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary loved Jesus, her Christ and Savior and was devoted to her family, friends and church.  She loved to see and hear about every milestone in their lives.

[Webmaster’s note]:  Mary was a dear friend.  I never saw her when she wasn't smiling.  When I first met Mary, I was her CPR instructor at ENMU-R.  She had some difficulty with the infant practical and considered dropping the class.  The Lord told me to work closely with her until she got it right.  For some reason, it was imperative that Mary completed the class successfully.  A couple of years later, it was apparent -- she saved the life of an infant in my wife's office at the Social Security Administration.  I then met Mary when I took up bowling and always looked forward to the times when I bowled against her.  I had learned that Mary had a close relationship with the Lord and she became a real friend to me.  My wife, Sharon and I will miss her as we talk about her often and her role in life saving that tiny infant.  We love you Mary.  -- George & Sharon Lee
