David Wayne Brooks

June 21, 1951 - Nov. 21, 2005

David Wayne Brooks, 54, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 25, at South Park Cemetery. Elton Dilbeck will officiate and military service rites will be provided by the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard.

Following the services, family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Country Club Church of Christ.

David was born to Hubert O. Brooks and Sarah Ruth Burroughs Brooks, on June 21, 1951 in Roswell, NM, at St. Mary's Hospital.

David graduated from Goddard High School in 1969. He was a very patriotic man and proudly served his country with the United States Army in Vietnam. After serving his country for 10 years, he belonged to the American Legion, the VFW and the DAV, and he carried the American Flag for the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard. David also volunteered his time for the needy at the Good Samaritan Food Bank.

His survivors include his sons, Robert Wayne Brooks and his wife, Rebecca, of Roswell and Joseph Anthony Brooks of Roswell; a daughter, Larretta Gail Brooks and her fiancé, Scott, of Las Vegas, Nev.; the mother of his children, Carlyn Olafson of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren Patrick, Stephanie, David Cassandra, Carrie and Gabriel; a brother Glenn E. Brooks and his wife Sharnene, of Roswell, his aunts and uncles, Ira "Bud" Brooks and his wife, Jean, and Johnny Brooks and his wife, Mary, all of Roswell; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

David was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Elizabeth Burroughs, and Jim and Grace Brooks.

Pallbearers will be Steve Brooks, Jimmy Brooks, Daniel Brooks and Glenn Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Garcia and Darrell.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard.
