Bernell Johnson
Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 16, at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ for Bernell Johnson, 1907 W. Clayton Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Johnson, 75, died Monday, October 13, 2008 at her home. |
Michael Joiner and J. T. Ross will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Joel Goss, Shawn Goss, Scott Goss, Tony Savoie, David Savoie and Billy Hendricks. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 AM Wednesday.
Mrs. Johnson was born April 9, 1933 in Artesia, New Mexico; the daughter of Washington Bernard McGuire and Mary Edna (Smith) McGuire.
On Oct. 24, 1958 she was married to Bill Johnson in Artesia. She was a lifelong area resident.
She was owner and operator of B & B Newsstand for over 40 years. She was a member of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ, Women’s Bowling Association for over 50 years, sponsor of Little League Baseball. She loved her customers and Artesia, and her greatest love was living on the ranch in Duncan, N.M. where she grew up.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Edwina Jernigan and Janice Barnett.
Survivors include her husband Bill Johnson of the family home; sons Teddy Savoie and wife Zana of Carlsbad, N.M., and Albert Johnson of Artesia; daughter Gayla Ivy and husband Jack of Artesia; brother W.B. McGuire of Artesia; grandchildren Joel Goss, Shawn Goss, Scott Goss, Melanie Ivy, Tony Savoie, David Savoie and Chelsey Jo Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren.
