Elijah "LeRoy" Goins
November 7, 1938 -- August 28, 2018
Elijah "LeRoy" Goins, 79, went to be with the Lord on
Tuesday, August 28, 2018, peacefully at home with family by his side. Please
take a moment and share a fond memory or kind expression of sympathy for LeRoy’s
family at andersonbethany.com.
Leroy was born on November 7, 1938, to
Marcus Norman and Velma (Marler) Goins in Bay Minette, Alabama, and graduated
from Bay Minette High School.
In 1956, LeRoy enlisted in the U.S. Navy
and served ten years with a large part of that as an instructor at Naval Air
Station in Millington, TN. When at sea, he served mostly in the Mediterranean.
LeRoy returned to the states and joined the Army National Guard and retired in
1986. He also retired from Atkins Engineering as a surveyor, working from 1985
to 2002.
Surviving to cherish LeRoy’s memory are his loving wife of
thirty-three years, Jolene (Fiber) Goins; sons: Sam Ray (Debbie), Ray Goins
(Laurie), Tony Ray (Connie); daughters: Matejka Santillanes (Jay), Nancy Leann
Mongin (Julio); sons, Don Goins (Tammy) and Tim Goins (Tamara); brother, AF
"Bud" Goins (Hazel); sisters, Callie Mae Hickman and Wilma Lyman; fifteen
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and
beloved dachshund, Amy Jo.
LeRoy and Jolene also have extended families
that remain dear to their hearts, Michael Johnston, Chrisynthia Fitzpatrick,
Chase Uhrich, Dakota Van Winkle and Brent Busby.
Preceding LeRoy in death
were his parents; oldest son, Larry Eugene Goins; and ten brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank Dr. Araujo and staff, including Phil, Debbie,
Theresa, Toni, Amanda, Kat and the wonderful staff in the radiation department
at Eastern New Mexico Medical Cancer Center. We are forever grateful for the
care Anita provided with Kindred Hospice Affiliates.
LeRoy and Jolene
lived in Roswell for thirty-three wonderful years; spending time in a "peaceful
valley" (backyard) and an annual trip back home to Alabama. He was a member of
the local Roswell Downtown Lions Club and enjoyed bowling and scrambled word
games, but he mostly loved traveling, camping and fishing. LeRoy was an avid
Green Bay Packer fan "Go Pack Go!", and Alabama Crimson Tide football fan "Roll
Tide!"
A Memorial Service will be held at
Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on
Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 11:00 AM. Tim Arlett will be officiating.
Following the services please join the family for a luncheon at the Fraternal
Order of Eagles, located at 3201 S. Sunset Avenue.
This lovely tribute
was written by LeRoy’s family in his honor.
